ABOUT TRACER GAS LEAK DETECTION
Tracer gas is a lighter-than-air gas. At low pressure, it can be injected into an empty pipe and will leak out the pipe in any cracks. After there, it rises directly to the surface, cutting right through any concrete or other typical building material in its path. Once on the surface, our trace and access leak detection experts can use a sensitive gas detector to locate the tracer gas.
The gas is absolutely harmless and doesn’t leave any deposits or residue on the pipes or other nearby materials.

The use of tracer gas is completely non-invasive since, once it has exited the leak's pipe, it passes through practically all construction materials—including concrete, paving slabs, sand, and soil—straight up and may be seen at the surface just above the leak. Naturally, water does not behave in this way and instead has a tendency to spread out both sideways and downwards, making it considerably more difficult to locate the exact leak position and demanding much larger-scale excavation efforts in order to locate the leak itself.
