We can fill pipes with an environmentally friendly, completely safe gas and then use a very sensitive detector to look for gas escaping from a leaking pipe. This can often be a very accurate test and can pinpoint a leak from a pipe buried in a concrete floor to within a few centimetres for example.
Water pipes constantly produce heat. A leak will change the pipes temperature at the source, revealing the problem. Thermography detects differences in surface temperature, providing our engineers evidence of where the leak is originating from.
Water escaping from a hole in a pipe makes a noise and we can sometimes hear this noise using a special microphone and amplifier.
A small camera and light at the end of a long flexible tube allows us to see around corners, investigate hidden cavities and peer behind walls; in this way, we can avoid the need to destroy large areas of ceilings, walls and floors.

Great service from Paul Whittington. He came out to our water leak issue on a Bank Holiday and within three hours he had found the leak using electronic equipment. Unfortunately for us, the leak is under the floor of the house. Excavation needed - yuk!I would definitely use his services again.

Paul arrived on schedule and traced a leaking joint under a timber floor. It would have been impossible to find without his expertise and equipment. He was then able to carefully remove the floor to gain access to the joint and cap the pipe. I would recommend his services to any potential clients.

I contacted Paul via email on Friday lunchtime, and received a reply quickly, asking me to call him. Even though he was working in London he offered to call in on his way home. He arrived at around 21:00 and spent roughly 3 hours searching for my leak, which he eventually found and stopped. Paul was very friendly and professional, and kept me informed at all times what he was doing Excellent service, and would gladly use again. C Roberts-Bolton, Stonehouse

The service received from Trace & Access was excellent. We had been suffering from a malfunctioning boiler due to lack of water pressure, which we presumed was due to a leak. After calling Trace & Access on a Saturday morning, Paul was extremely knowledgeable, talked me through the possibilities, & we arranged for him to come on the Tuesday. Paul arrived promptly on the Tuesday morning, & proceeded to use his kit to do a thorough inspection of the house, which revealed a leaking radiator valve underneath the concrete in one of the rooms. He proceeded to remove enough of the wooden laminate flooring & concrete to be able to expose the fault. He did a good job of stemming the flow of water, told me precisely what was needed to repair the fault, so I could arrange for a plumber to come the following day. Paul was very professional & knowledgeable, did an excellent job, worked in a neat & tidy manner, & left us with all the information we needed to get the leak fixed. A detailed report arrived via email first thing the following morning, which was just what the insurers required for the insurance claim.

Paul Whittington answered and promptly fixed an appointment for trace and access all within a day of my enquiry . On the day- A very professional service with meticulous analysis of the problem and systematic investigation to get to a diagnosis. Accessing the pipe was done with a great deal of care, ( chipping away slowly but steadily at the concrete) given all the other pipes around the leaking site. Excellent advice on further steps. Paul exuded confidence and utmost professionalism. Report was thorough and sent promptly. All in all a great service and would recommend highly

Paul was punctual, very thorough and explained what he was doing throughout. Fortunately he was able to find the source of the leak quickly with the minimum of holes in the wall. It was not a cheap visit (which we knew in advance) but hopefully our reduced water bills will soon make up for it and it was a huge relief to find the source of the problem, so very happy to recommend.

I was very impressed with the end to end service from Trace and Access Experts. They were the only company to answer the phone on New Year’s Day and Paul the duty engineer talked me through all the steps for investigation and was very reassuring. We were lucky enough to get an appointment the following day.Paul arrived promptly the next day and applied a very thorough and methodical search to find the source of the escaped water. He had all the expert equipment you could imagine which was again very reassuring. The leak was identified and Paul explained everything very clearly and all steps to resolution and restoration. We also received a very thorough and detailed report. Thanks again.
